Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, CA
Originally built by Baron Makoto Hagiwara for the Mid-Winter Exhibition of 1894, the Japanese Tea Garden is the oldest garden of the city. It is also believed to be the most popular feature of Golden Gate Park, including many paths, ponds and a teahouse that features native Japanese and Chinese plants. Besides, there are many sculptures and bridges hidden in its five acres land.
The other major attractions of the garden include:
- The gate- This is constructed from Japanese Hinoki Cypress and built without the use of nails.
- The Lantern of Peace - This is a gift of the Japanese government as a gesture of reconciliation after World War II.
- The tea house - located in the middle of the garden, the Tea House attracts visitors in large number, as the guests here get to enjoy hot tea and amazing Fortune cookies.
- The drum bridge
- The classical Zen Garden
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit this quite unique spot of city is the spring, as this time the cherry trees bloom and the tree's leaves change color, so the garden looks quite prettier.
