San Francisco: Spectacular Oktober Fest
If you ask me who has the knack of creating magic from every small thing, the only answer that I will have is, the San Franciscans. When it comes to any celebration they whole heartedly devote their time and energy for its success. Make your visit any time of the year, there will always be something to celebrate, to see or attend an event.
May it be music, dance, theatrical performances, art exhibits, parties, fairs or festivals, every thing has its own distinct appeal which makes its special, unique and one of its kind. The city hardly has time to breathe, one after the other the events come and go but it leaves behind the golden memories of pure fun and excitement.
At times San Franciscan can also go to the extent of closing off streets for huge street parades, fairs and festivals. That doesn’t show their eccentricity but whole hearted devotion and every possible effort to turn every small thing into grand success. This attitude of San Franciscans draw huge crowd from all over the world.
To prove my point mentioning those events that has nothing to do with San Francisco or its culture is worth
mentioning. To name the few, they are Chinese New Year and Oktober fest. The Oktober fest is held annually at Fort Mason, sets the mood and gives you the true spirit of Munich’s famed Oktober fest.
With Hollywood influence on people, they leave no opportunity to disguise themselves in costumes that go well with the events. The sexy girls are seen in traditional German Dirndls and boys in lederhosen, some are also seen in Tracht. Enjoy the non-stop German music, German dance, German food and pints and pints of German beer.
Some of the travelers find it really strange that they have never seen a single German brand of beer in any restaurants, bar or store during their visit to US, but during this fest German Beer (spaten) is brought especially from Germany which is the hallmark of Oktober fest. The traditional costumes pumps in new life to the celebration and gives you the feeling of being in a different world.
Its fun and laughter every where, the moment you step inside you will be
immediately tuned up into party mood. Dance till you get breathless and gulp down beer to the capacity of your limits. The Famous Continentals Polka Band, in their song, ‘In Heaven There Is No Beer, That’s Why We Drink It Here’ is enough to convey the whole essence of Oktober Fest –Fun N Enjoyment.
The popularity of this fest is growing manifold but unfortunately the parking provided is limited, take this into consideration if this fest is on your priority list. This fest is nowadays synonymous to Carnival or the Mardi Grass from the time adult crowd has been more active in the chapter of Oktober fest celebration.
Oktober fest is just the drop in the ocean when it comes to events in San Francisco. Other events like Beach Blanket Babylon, Fleet Week, Fourth Of July Fireworks, SFJazz, Chine New Year Celebration, Great Dickens Christmas Fair, AfroSolo Arts Festival, Aloha Festival, Fringe Festival and Tulipmania also rules the roost.
I will talk about these events in details later in my other posts.
